In 1997 the Australian Centre for Photography (ACP) presented two exhibitions of work by new photo artists previously unrecognised through exhibition in public gallery or contemporary art spaces: Disclosure at the ACP, curated by Blair French and Kathryn Parker, and Subtitle at Side On Gallery, curated by Daniel Mudie Cunningham. Disclosure focused on new photomedia work, while the off-site companion exhibition Subtitle presented a program of new video works by recent graduates from the art schools at University of NSW, University of Technology Sydney and University of Western Sydney. Subtitle was one of the last exhibitions at the Sydney artist-run space Side On, which was located at 176 Parramatta Road, Stanmore.
