Sturgeon, issue 1, 2013
Edited by Daniel Mudie Cunningham

Sturgeon was a publishing initiative of Artbank that sought to further promote the value of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australian contemporary art to both the public and private sectors nationally and internationally.

For the inugural issue of Sturgeon, edited by Daniel Mudie Cunningham, the content broadly addressed concepts of time and history – looking at the future through the past – in part through the lens of Artbank's history. Clemens Habicht's commissioned cover image was a portrait of Graeme Sturgeon (1936–1990), Artbank’s inaugural director, whose name inspired the publication’s title and 'big fish' concept.

Sturgeon was launched at a party held in East Sydney on 26 November 2013 with a set from The Mumps (Tina Havelock Stevens, Liberty Kerr, Adele Pickvance).
