Daniel Mudie Cunningham, Licycle, 1995
Photo: Heidrun Löhr
Daniel Mudie Cunningham performs to Liza Minnelli’s Cabaret. With playback on a cassette Walkman tucked into his genital region and held into place by a lycra onesie, only the artist can hear the song to which he lip-syncs silently. While he performs Cabaret, the audience hears an audio recording of a fictional message from a crazed fan left on Liza Minnelli’s answering machine.

This work was a live adaptation of Bicycle, a video work made at Western Sydney University the year before and forms part of Silent Disco.
